BMW of 2015: Behold the future of a grand new genre!

Designing a concept car is all about amalgamating style with sense and passion with precision to produce not just the best possible result but also a look and feel that defies convention and revamps tradition. The BMW 2015 is a collection of concept cars that has all these features and more making them almost unsuitable for the world in its present state. The metallic look, sensationally styled finish and the sheer functionality of the form makes you wonder where tomorrow of the automobile world will take you.


Designed by 3rd year students of Transportation Design School at Turin Based IED, the Zx-6, Vela Concept, Snug and Africa are billed as the carriers of BMW for the year 2015, though it is highly unlikely that they will make it to the roads even then. They are designed as if they were almost destined to fly in the sky with grace and poise. The concept is focused keeping in mind the modern needs, tastes and life style of an individual. All the cars designed in this project looks like toy cars. This might well be a toy if the big boys of the auto world choose to keep their feet more grounded and look around only for conventional designs.


Initially, students’ concept work focused on individuating wishes, needs, tastes and life style of an individual (man or woman) meant to turn 35 years old in 2025. As to shapes development, they were asked to find an inspiration source looking both into natural elements like the sun, the sea, the wind or the earth and in forms of expression such as music, painting or arts in general.


Taking inspiration from African lifestyle, tradition and art; searching for unique ways of thinking, different from modern ones and creating culture design the Africa Concept is a real head turner. The vehicle deconstructs itself in order to fit different daily needs. The design language is developed as to facilitate the concept, taking in account the African culture and artistic expression.


SNUG is a concept which aims to create a sense of community: a simple, fun object, designed for people who appreciate personal relationships, people who are different from the others, in their opinions and in their feelings. This one is real cute and a very unique concept which once again shows new trends and showcases the designer’s ingenuity. The BMW- ZX 6 and Vela Concepts are the ones that are more built for the space-age look and feel. All in all, it is an extraordinary collection by some of the best minds who are likely to take over the automobile industry soon and that is good news indeed!
